South Africa

Never let the non-descript name fool you. The southern most-nation on the African continent defies simple description. Profound natural beauty, tremendous resource potential, a remarkable history and an impressive blending of African and global immigrant populations make SA a unique destination. Self declared in years gone by as the world in one country, many ecosystems, geologic formations and an amazing spectrum of flora and fauna can fill years worth of travel. The magical Table Mountain whether climbed, hiked, painted or picnicked upon has inspired generations. Any of the six floral kingdom gardens outside Capetown are bound to stun amateur to seasoned botanists. History and nature buffs can practically drown in the wealth of possibilities in the majestic Drakensberg Mountains. The ski season is very brief unless one doesn’t mind mixing it up a bit with Kalahari Desert sand surfing or skiing. Kruger National Park safaris are legendary and tilted towards conservation. Extreme adventurers come from far and wide to cage or free dive with the last of the protected Great White and Sand Tiger sharks. Some of the biggest and most ferocious pipelines worshipped by surfers worldwide offer not just extreme adventure but a whole way of life of which most of us can only dream.

Hluhluwe, Kwazulu-Natal Province, South Africa
When travelling through South Africa you must visit the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National park. Less commercial than the Kruger and more a treat when you finally see some wildlife.

Go to the top of Table mountain at the first chance of fine weather as it can often be cloudy and the cable car to the top of the mountain is closed when it is cloudy.

I've been around but this is the most beautiful place on the planet. I know, it will be hard to find a similar spot. Lovely nature reserves where you can do a safari. You should go for a horse riding safari as you get closer to the animals, nice! Many high quality restaurants with decent prices. Not to forget a fantastic choice of wine all local! And you can go out for days and meet the nice and friendly South Africans! *****

Try a 'bunny chow'...hollowed out unsliced bread with a traditional South African Indian curry filling (usually lamb). You'll get your fingers dirty...but its well worth it!

Keep your windows wound up as you enter the park - there are monkeys around and you want to avoid them getting into your car.  They may jump onto your car roof, though, so drive slowly.

I did an airport stops between London and Durban. Apart from London Heathrow, this has got to be one of the busiest airports I've seen. The service there is good
