Try a 'bunny chow'...hollowed out unsliced bread with a traditional South African Indian curry filling (usually lamb). You'll get your fingers dirty...but its well worth it!

A great place to swim in the sea all year round, especially in the summer period over Christmas if you can make it! The main beaches are protected by shark nets and there are many local attractions to see. If one wants to get involved a bit more in the local culture then go to the ABSA Stadium (Rugby) where you can watch the regional team the Natal Sharks play, they were finalists in 2007 of the prestigious Super 14 Competition. The stadium is often used for international games between the Springboks and their close rivals the Australians and Kiwis, with crowds nearing 50,000.

Feel free to take local black buses during the day just ask where you are staying the hand signal they use for your destination and the one to get you back!

Bikini or boardies, sarong, sun cream (strong if you're fair!), and sandals!

stay away from the all u can eat buffet at ushaka marine world. 3 days in bed and 5 kilos lighter thanks to a bad case of food poisoning

Definitely try original Indian food and talke a very early morning walk on the ocean cost

When walking on the main promenade, be sure not to have any valuables on you! Just take whatever cash you might need and leave everything else locked up. Unfortunately city centre Durban is rife with muggers. (2008)

Avoid the waterfront in Durban Central, very dangerous. Go to Ushaka, lots of fun :D
