Hotel Emperador, Hondarribia, Spain (Basque Region).
It is not often that you can say you stayed in a hotel that was built during the Middle Ages by a King. Thankfully, this hotel has been tastefully redone, sparing no ammenities, and while keeping all the history this 10th Century architectural masterpiece deserves. We truly felt like royalty as we dined and lounged around the hotel while the 'people' peered into the hotel through the windows. ;o)
To make our experience even more memorable were lovely beaches, the Basque people and culture...and the food. I would rank the Basque food at the top when ranked against any in the world. This is a spectacular hotel, in a small town overlooking the Basque countryside and beaches and a place to experience food that will sear into your culinary 'memory' making it impossible not to return to Hondarribia.

I recomend eating "pinchos" at "plaza mayor", they're a kind of incredible toasts...And of course the view of the citiy from the "mirador"...It's great!!!
