Lloret de Mar is a coastal town in Catalunya on the Mediterrean primarily known as a tourist resort. It is adjacent to Blanes and Tossa de Mar and is 75 kilometers from Barcelona. With a population of 29,445 it is the second largest town in the Selva comarca (county) of Catalonia. It has a population density of approximately 130 inhabitants per kilometer squared. During the tourist season, the number of people in Lloret (both inhabitants and tourists) often reaches 200,000 and the town becomes very noisy even at night. For decades it has attracted summer visitors on package tours, mainly from northern Europe, and it is now the most important resort in the Costa Brava. The sand on the beaches is coarse, but is otherwise undistinguished as a result of the rapid and largely uncontrolled development of hotels, apartment blocks, discos, casinos etcLloret de Mar beach is a town beach (length: 2 km; width: 15 m; fine white sand), one of the most popular Costa Brava beaches. There is a medieval fort on the outskirts of the town called "castell de sant Joan", Saint Joan's castle (Lloret was founded in 1001 AD). Many consider a bronze statue overlooking the town to be Lloret's symbol. The sculpture shows a fisherman's wife (Dona Marinera) and it was made in 1966 by Ernest Maragall. Notable people who have lived in Lloret de Mar include Vanessa Riboloni, Mix Master Flex-A-Tron, Stephen Milburn and Bobby "La Playa" Santana In July 2008 Lloret de Mar has been the scene of the murder of a young Italian woman named Federica Squarise.Uruguay-born Victor Diaz Silva, a bartender at the Beach & Friends bar, where he met Squarise, confessed to be the author of the murder and was arrested on July 10th, 2008. This place is absolute madness. If you are looking for the party life and fun, then this is one of the hot spots in Europe!!! Just make sure you go on season, cause it will be dead after that. Clubs are generally very cheap, and you can always find special deals on the streets, from people trying to get people in to the clubs. Best thing is you get a club pass, which will get you free entrance in to lots of clubs, and you wont have to queue! The best club of them all, is the St. Trop! And don`t worry about getting bored during the day, you probably wont get back to the hotel before 6AM or even later....... and if you should still feel like doing something in the later afternoon, just go to the beach. Lots a water sports activities.
For everyone who loves sand, sun and sea.
And of corse for the nightlife.
during the day Lloret the Mar gives access to shops, bars, restaurants and a lot of fun on the beach. But don't forget that there's a siesta, so the shops are closed during the hottest moment of the day. That's when tourists go to the beach and sleep of the night.
At night Loret de Mar gives access to the hottest places to be! Great clubs, karaoke and bars, even at the beach and lots of sangria.
Shopping is very cheap and eating out is possible at a great place for a low price.
Don't forget your sunscreen and have a great time!
