Travel Tips for History of Madrid

Madrid, Madrid Region, Spain
make sure to give yourself at least a couple days to check out all the sights in the city, and at least 1-2 days for day trips... Toledo is a must-see (it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and Segovia is another one you shouldn't miss. Toledo is only a 1/2 hr train ride (AVE...Spain's high speed train) from the center of Madrid. Go to the Puerta de Atocha station and get your tix. they leave pretty much every hr-every two hrs (depending on the day the time of the day). You can also get tix to Segovia that leave from Puerta de Atocha... that train ride is about an hr long.

Visit the Anthropolical Museum in Madrid its very well organized and interesting social history of Spain. A journal is a must; too many things to see and sometimes not even a picture captures the moment. Go in June and you get to do a lot of shopping- discount season! Have some Spanish in a book; or be more or less able to get a conversation going...buy weekly metro tickets and also for the Periferiales so you save on moving around the city and when traveling short distances. Don't forget to travel light clothes that don't wrinkle and make sure you get a locker at the Ave station so you can keep valuables that might get lost as you travel.

It is necessary to somewhat comprehend Spanish to get around this country (obviously). Also, very smart and convenient to take the metro or train versus driving all over the country. Went to Plaza de Toros as a part of my lit. class to see a bull fight, however, i do not recommend going if you have a weak stomach or sensitive (like myself) to that type of "sport". If you love muesums, art, history, parks, you will really enjoy this place, not to mention they have good food. they are really big on tapas restaurants and paella...yum yum!
