Salamanca, Castilla-Leon Region, Spain
Salamanca (Central West Spain, near Portugal) is an old city with a rich cultural live. Lots of historical buldings (university, churches, palaces,...). You could guess half of its population are students. It nightlife is very busy and its a must visit for either partying students or cultural tourism. Just as everywhere in Spain you can get good food and taste wine before meals in its bars or having a refreshment on a "terraza" sitting to a table on the street enjoying the good weather. Well known and worth visiting are: Plaza Mayor, Universidad, Catedral (there are an old one... a new one... both hundreds of years old), Palacio de Anaya,... and charming medieval streets.

Islas Canarias, Canarias (Canary Islands) Region, Spain
If you're making plans to go to Tenerife, make sure you book yourself a hotel in the southern part of the island, because of the better weather conditions. U will find lots of star hotels and good time share resorts. If you're looking for some typical southern European shopping in narrow streets with shops where you have to bargain, definitely go to Los Christianos. It's a town with a nice beach, lots of pitoresque shops, and if you're lucky you might even catch up with a beach volleyball match!

Tolosa, Basque Country, Spain
A gem of a city in the Basque region of Spain, definitely worth visiting for its beautiful beaches, lovely weather and interesting culture. A word of advice though is don't expect to get by in English, or even Spanish in smaller stores or with older members of the population, many of them speak only Euskara (Basque).

Zarautz, Basque Country, Spain
Absolutely beautiful place to visit. The town itself is tiny but the people are friendly, the weather is gorgeous and it's close to the beach and the ocean is wonderful. It's a fabulous place to get a feeling for real spanish culture, though it's a bit of a culture shock for Americans who aren't used to *everything* closing during the siesta hours in the afternoon. Also, many of the older citizens speak only Euskara (Basque) and maybe a little spanish so it can be difficult to communicate. Many of the younger generation however speak passable English.

Zarautz, Basque Country, Spain
A great city to visit if you want to get a real taste of spanish culture. It's a tiny town and a bit of a culture shock for Americans who aren't used to *everything* shutting down for siesta hours in the afternoon. However, the weather is gorgeous, the views are breathtaking and it's right on the ocean. A word of warning though, many of the older citizens speak only Euskara (Basque) and maybe a little spanish so communicating can be difficult. However, many of the younger generation speak passable English, so don't let the language gap take this gem of a city off your list of possible vacation spots
