Dambulla attracts only a small number of travelers, who mostly stop for a visit to see the Thi Lanka Resort. Otherwise those traveling through the area generally visit the more popular destinations such as Kandy. Travel Tips from people who've been to Dambulla
After having spent many hours in a car, to tour Sri Lanka I arrived at the Kandalama Hotel. Even though it is the first Asian Hotel to be rewarded the Green Globe Certification it still has some wonderful creature comforts. (Think nice shower!)It is ideal to visit some of the most famous places in Sri Lanka such as Dambulla and Sigiriya. And while not treating yourself to a sunset elephant tour.

Dambulla Cave Temple (also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla) is a world heritage site since1991.
A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m 2 ) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues.

Be cautious. There are a lot of monkeys near the Dambulla Cave Temples. Wild animals are always unpredicable no matter how cute or "just like people" they might seem. No matter how unlikely getting bitten by a monkey might be, getting treated for it is probably not how you want to spend your vacation.
