There are several tour companies in town that offer trips.  You can go dogsledding, skiing, or snowmobiling in the winter.   In the summer there are boat tours to Barentsburg (Russian settlement).  Mine tours are possible year round.

In town, you can visit the Museum, cemetery and 24-hr sundial.

Mary-Ann`s Polarrigg

Exotic and spectacular and very dark (in winter). Not allowed to leave Longyearbyen without armed weapons due to the risk of running into polar bears. Weather conditions can change in seconds, and the northern lights - as well as lights in general- is like nothing you've ever seen elsewhere.
