Jarna, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden Järna has long been the centre of the anthroposophical movement in Sweden, and there is a private clinic, several schools and other institutions affiliated with the movement. A lot of the buildings, in the nearby village of Ytterjärna , are designed by the Danish-born anthroposophical architect Erik Asmussen (1913-1998), including the Cultural Centre in Ytterjärna, which in 2001 was voted the second best-liked modern building in Sweden Good tip? (0) Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden Great city with a variety of cultural events and activities. Don't miss the Gamla Stan or old town with some great soft serve ice cream. Hotel Wallin was a little bit out of the way but was quite nice with decent modern rooms. Go during the summer....there is something inherently awesome about it being bright at 9pm and again at 2 am. Good tip? (0) Vikene, Central & Northern Sweden, Sweden If you ever have the chance to visit Varmland in Sweden, make sure you visit the Brunskogs fair in Vikene/Brunskog which takes place for a week every July. It takes place in a local "skanzen" an open museum dedicated to the Swedish folk culture. There is a full reconstruction of a traditional Swedish village and during the fair actors in traditional suits perform daily tasks such as wood coal making, baking traditional bread, etc. like in the 19th century! There are also traditional music and dramatic performances to be seen durign the fair. The whole area also offers loads of great hiking, fishing on massive scandinavian lakes and cultural activities. Varmland is a trully beautiful example of Swedish culture and nature. More tourist info on: http://www.varmland.org/index.asp?fu_id=115 Good tip? (0) Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden be sure to stop by the "kulturhuset" in the centre of town, this is where you can find lots of info on all cultural events going on in the city (concerts, exibitions, ....) and it's a nice place to hang out and have a drink Good tip? (0) Goteborg, Gothenburg and Surroundings, Sweden The Book Fair in Gothenburg (October) is big and worth visiting. But buy the tickets in advance - it's a lot faster. Good tip? (0) Solvesborg, Southern Sweden, Sweden The only time I've been to Sölvesborg is when I visited Sweden Rock Festival :)
It's a medium large festival with rock bands - everything from Def Leppard to Gamma Ray. Everyone's in a good mood, the food is actually nice and when you leave you can't wait to get back again. (0) Stockholm, Southern Sweden, Sweden As for the sightseeing, I was really impressed by the Gamla Stan - that's the name of the Old Town. Visit Vasa Museum, Junibacken, City Hall. This places are really great. As for the nightlife - was in the Spy Bar - liked the design, the music wasn't as good though.
Btw, keep in mind that the alkohol is Really expensive there due to the state monopoly on it.
In general, Stockholm is really great. Loved it!!!!! Good tip? (0) Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden don't miss Solidaritet disco: good music and funny girls.Just in the city center, close to Stureplan. Good tip? (0) Malmo, Southern Sweden, Sweden in August takes the "Malmö-Festival" place - its great!
generally in August a lot of big citys in Sweden seem to have their festivals (music, city, cultural...) its really awesome! (no entrance fee!) Good tip? (0) Gotland, Southern Sweden, Sweden Beautiful unspoilt island an easy trip by ferry from Stockhol. Hire a bike when you get there and make sure you take time to walk around historic Visby with its well preserved fortifications. Good tip? (+1) Visby, Southern Sweden, Sweden Visby is verry cosy and popular in the summer (people in Sweden says it looks like Greece and I agree). A tip is to rent a bike and take a glass by the harbor. Good tip? (0) Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden The best restaurant to try Swedish food is the "Pelikan" in Södermalm (Blekingegatan 40). If you want to try something typical - you should go there. The food is fantastic and prices are moderate. Good tip? (0) Kalarne, Central & Northern Sweden, Sweden Kalarne, Sweden - stayed with friends for a couple weeks, forgot some of the names of towns we went to.. my first meal was rotten fish (from a can) as it was the delicacy in Sweden. Paid $3.00 for an ice cream cone back when they were about $1.50... Had coffee at 3:00 p.m. as was the custom, until my hosts offered me coffee when I woke up which was great!.. Good tip? (0) Karlstad, Central & Northern Sweden, Sweden - Free 'rent a bike'-spot in the center of the city
- Shoppingarea Good tip? (0) Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden In Scandinavia, we spent most of our nights on overnight trains to save money, however in Stockholm we stayed 1 night on a boat in the harbour. It was very atmospheric. worked out to about $30 per person I think, so pricey on a backpacker budget, but everywhere in Sweden is, so based on that fact, it was pretty good. Good tip? (+1) Lulea, Central & Northern Sweden, Sweden FOREX OFFICES AT STORGATAN Good tip? (+1) Stockholm, Stockholm and Surroundings, Sweden the 2kronor hostel is really nice and its located directly on the seaside of gamla stan (the old city), i at least felt save there and it was a good place to start my trips to the different places in stockholm Good tip? (+1) Nora, Southern Sweden, Sweden Stadshotellet is not only a hotel, it's also a sight in itself. And if you come to Nora in search of "Skoga" known from Maria Langs books, it is a must, because it is also the scene of one of her murder stories. Good tip? (+1) Goteborg, Gothenburg and Surroundings, Sweden Göteborg is a charming smaller city on Sweden's west coast, and it might be hard to realize that this is actually second biggest city in Sweden. With lot of greenery and parks, it is much more relaxing than for example Stockholm or Malmö. Pace and perhaps even attitude is bit different. Göteborg still uses rail transport in city: trams or so called spårvagnar. There are many new models of the trams now, but it is still common even with the old models from 1960s/70s. They might be less convinient with their oddly constructed doors, but in general they are fun... and could actually be considered to be part of the attractions in city. There are quite few museums, churches, a moderate size convention center, stadiums for bigger music and sport events, and not to forget: an opera house. Liseberg is local amusment park and provides rides, fun and events for all from mid springtime until mid september, every year. Recent years they have started with winter holiday events as well (December-January.) Göteborg is one of quite many Swedish university cities. For a smaller city like this, the list of events is usually quite impressive. Decent club scene. Restaurants can be pretty good experience and there are nice places where to treat yourself and your company matching for all levels of economy. Some of the best restaurants are "Pasta etc" (cheap, yet stylish, and very tasty foods), "LaSombrita" (greatest tapas I've ever tasted, anywhere... decent price), "28+" (fine dining and delicious dishes with matching prices), ... just to mention few. Göteborg is said to be one of the best cities in Europe for good restaurants, so make sure to find your favorites during your stay. Good tip? (0) |
