Planning a Trip to Sweden

Summer is the best time to go and check out stockholm. Be sure not to miss Gamla Stan (old city) Stockholm is home to a wide variety of clubs, discotheques and pubs. You’ll find bigger discotheques and clubs around Stureplan and Kungsgatan, one of the city’s main entertainment district. Be sure not to miss going to,Spy Bar, Sturecompagniet, Cafe Opera

The best way to make time pass by is to visit Hamptjärnsstugan and barbecue some hotdogs!

Stockholm card is the best value way of both getting around the city and seeing what the city has to offer. Not to mention free entry into many attractions. Just remember to pick up a map at the same time!

Check out "Göthlinska gården", a beautiful 18th century private home, preserved the way it was when the Göthlin-family lived there. It is a quite uniqe museum, because not only are you allowed to take photos, you may also touch the exibits.

Kalmar is one of my favorite cities I've visited. Rich with old-world Swedish culture, the city's cobblestone roads leading to an HM shows the melding of old and new. If you are lucky enough to visit, make sure to walk the city's wall (once used to contain and protect the city from invaders) and visit the Kalmar Castle. The Castle has an outdoor grass/park area open to the public, and frequented by local friends relaxing or picnicking. Old canons remain on the grounds and the entire area is one giant series of photo-ops.

The Drottningholm Palace - Home of the Swedish Royal Family. You can take pictures on the grounds however I don't remember if you can take photos inside the palace. On the grounds of the Palace is also their private theater. This theater is the oldest theater in the world. The theater is a guided tour and if you are lucky you may see backstage. Actual performances are given in the theater so look at the performance schedule. Also on the grounds is the Chinese Pavilion and The Guards Tent. I did not go into either one of these so you will need to luck up the website of the palace. There is a gift shop available.

Stockholm comes with fish! One of the best places for having fish in Stockholm is the Saluhall (Sundays closed!). Stockholm's also an amazing place for photography. A few impressions:

Kalarne, Sweden - stayed with friends for a couple weeks, forgot some of the names of towns we went to.. my first meal was rotten fish (from a can) as it was the delicacy in Sweden. Paid $3.00 for an ice cream cone back when they were about $1.50... Had coffee at 3:00 p.m. as was the custom, until my hosts offered me coffee when I woke up which was great!..

In Scandinavia, we spent most of our nights on overnight trains to save money, however in Stockholm we stayed 1 night on a boat in the harbour. It was very atmospheric. worked out to about $30 per person I think, so pricey on a backpacker budget, but everywhere in Sweden is, so based on that fact, it was pretty good.

Beautiful unspoilt island an easy trip by ferry from Stockhol. Hire a bike when you get there and make sure you take time to walk around historic Visby with its well preserved fortifications.

the 2kronor hostel is really nice and its located directly on the seaside of gamla stan (the old city), i at least felt save there and it was a good place to start my trips to the different places in stockholm

Stadshotellet is not only a hotel, it's also a sight in itself. And if you come to Nora in search of "Skoga" known from Maria Langs books, it is a must, because it is also the scene of one of her murder stories.
