Travel Tips from people who've been to Thun
Located on the western shore of the Lake it is named after, Thun has a lot to offer for tourists who are (literally) tired of hiking -- this is an urban area after all. You can follow the river that flows through the city -- or perhaps go for a boat ride on the Lake. It's quite easy to go from Thun to Interlaken and then sail on to the easternmost city of the Lakes area, called Brienz. An old castle dominates Thun's skyline -- and it is rather impressive if you ask me. Sitting atop a hill, it literally towers over the city. Beware of the countless steps, though. At the foot of the castle you'll find various little streets lined with shops. Word to the wise: be sure to check the opening hours, for Monday is a popular closing day for lots of shop owners! Good tip? (0) Thun Castle and the old wooden bridge well-worth your visit. If you are into hip hop, there are annual festivals organized by a dance school, which could easily and proudly compete with similar ones in NYC, London or Tokyo. Good tip? (0) Get yourself a rubber dinghy and hit the River Thun in the summer, and then take in a nice, long, relaxing drift along towards Bern. Takes probably half a day, and there's plenty of places you can stop off along the way for a bbq. Good tip? (0)
