Switzerland History
Travel Tips for History of SwitzerlandZurich, Zurich Region, Switzerland Go on a boat ride on Lake Zurich. It's worth it. Bike riding is also a great way to see the city and the lake. For cheap but clean places to stay, try a hostel; if that's not your cup of tea, hotels abound. There are also cheap yet clean campgrounds where one can pitch a tent and "rough it out". There's tons of shopping, food, chocolate, history, a huge weekly market at the main train station, etc. etc. etc. I love it and can't wait to go back. Good tip? (0) Biel, Mittelland Region, Switzerland economy: see the headquater of swatch, the worlds largest watch company.
culture: experience the two-language culture (german and french) when talking to people, reading road signs and listen to the local radio station.
sport: visit switzerlands national sport campus in magglingen
history: learn about the correction of lakes and rivers in the 19th century Good tip? (0) Fribourg, Jura Mountains and Fribourg, Switzerland Heaven for theologians looking for new books. Also heaven for those who like medieval cities. The current heart of Fribourg isn't that pretty, although you can have a decent afternoon of shopping at the Rue de Romont. But try and take the funiculaire down to the old town, it's very pretty. The Romanesque convent of Maigrauge is a must-see, somewhat off-track, definite hidden gem! After visiting st. Nicolas cathedral (do have a closer look at the stained glass windows) have a drink at Café Gotthard, with the lovely waiter with the blue hair ;) Then make your way back to the Rue de Romont for de fondue moitié-moitié at Café du Midi: the best in town! Good tip? (0) Lausanne, Lake Geneva Region, Switzerland If you don't like hills stay away from Lausanne. If you don't mind them Lausanne is a good base, try to visit during one of the festivals that go on in and around the city: the Féte de la cité or de la Ville, the Montreaux or Cully jazz festivals or the Paleo music festival. Otherwise there are some interesting museums: the Olympic museum, Natural history or de l'art brut. Good tip? (0) La Sarraz, Lake Geneva Region, Switzerland Beautifull little village with well preserved medieval Castle and Chapel. Good tip? (0) Bradt Travel Guides |
