Travel Tips from people who've been to Melide
Don't miss Swissminiatur, a must see attraction for anyone visiting the Ticino region of Switzerland. Located on the shore of Lake Lugano, this little village is surrounded with Monte Generoso, Monte San Salvatore and Monte San Giorgio, which has been declared UNESCO World natural Heritage Site.
Swissminiatur displays 120 handmade models of important Swiss landmarks representing the patrician houses, the most important castles and cathedrals of Switzerland. 18 trains run through the park and numerous famous mountain peaks complete the picture. The landmarks are all built precisely at a 1:25 scale.
A self-service restaurant in the park serves local, Swiss, Italian, authentic Chinese and Indian cuisines. The restaurant can also accomodate large groups. The park is open from mid March until mid November. Access to the park is very easy, be it by motorway, train, or even by boat.
It is an experience that will be enjoyed by young and old alike and is quite affordable. The owner and CEO, Mr. Dominique Vuigner, along with the rest of the staff, is very friendly and speaks French, Italien, and English fluently. He problably speaks German, too, I didn't try that!
