Travel Tips from people who've been to Valais Region
Visit the highest ice pavilion in the world at an altitude of 3810 m. above sea-level.
Admission free. Open from 09:00 to 15:45.
Experience the mystical world below the perpetual ice with its ice sculptures and exhibition about glaciers, geology and the rescue service in Zermatt.

There is also an icebar in the grotto and a lot of icesculptures. Don't miss it if you plan to go to "Klein Matterhorn".
But remember take warm clothes with you the grotto at an altitute of 3810m.
High altitude precautions:Don't forget to acclimatize before going on up to the Klein Matterhorn (3'800m). Please bear in mind that you need plenty of fluids and time to acclimatize when you are at an altitude of over 9,840 feet / 3,000 meters.
You will avoid headaches or dizzy feelings.
Clothing tips:
Warm clothing, a windproof jacket and solid footwear are a must, whatever the time of year. And, of course, don’t forget your sunglasses, sun cream and your cap/hat at these high altitudes.
Transportation:Electric vans and taxis  Because cars are not allowed in Zermatt, only electric vehicles are allowed on the streets. The downside to this is, these electric carts are silent. Drivers generally look out for pedestrians and will ring an attached bell to warn those around them, but keep an eye on your surroundings just in case. It could save you from scrambling down a stairwell or embankment to avoid being run down!
Avalanche hazard: If you're going skiing/surfing off-piste or climbing. Please respect the local regulations and read the avalanche bullettins.

Keep in mind that nature is always stronger than humans, so keep humble.
Slippery Streets: Most certainly winter brings a lot of snow and ice to Zermatt, which makes walking around kind of troublesome. First of all, it has some pretty steep roads, with signs showing the angles and saying "be careful" in German. With all of that ice it can get pretty slippery. I couldn't tell you how many times we fell going up or down steps and on those steep streets, where you can slide for quite a distance before stopping!
