From the highest point in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro (5895m) to the endless plains of the Serengeti, the wonder of the Ngorongoro Crater and the mystical spice island of Zanzibar, Tanzania has more than its share of natural wonders and interesting destinations. Look into the expressive eyes of chimpanzees made famous by Dr. Jane Goodall in the Gombe stream. See the famous wildebeest migration or rediscover beautifully maintained sultan palaces. Trace our ancestors’ first footsteps at the Olduvai Gorge or set your sights on Lake Tanganyika, the longest and second deepest freshwater lake in the world. Take a safari through the enormous Selous Game reserve, Africa’s biggest reserve containing the world’s largest big game concentration. And when you’re all done, scuba dive in the famous waters off the emerald coast where beautiful reefs, sea turtles and dolphins await, or watch the sun set aboard a romantic Dhow cruise. Whatever you want to see and experience, Tanzania offers a vast expanse of magical and memorable experiences.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Tanzania
If you know to avoid the papasi (touts) - a lot better to do in the rainy season- Stonetown can be a wonderfully relaxed town, with small streets, beautifully delapitated buildings and great, great food. For the latter, check out the food market that starts every night around 7, currently in a little streat near the Fortress. Maybe not the best place to eat lobster (though still not bad at all), but certainly the most atmospheric one!

Never, ever walk alone during the night in Arusha and its surroundings. It is not sae, not even for a few meters. Get a cab (deal the price before). Stories of rapes, attacks, robberies, carjacks, murders and others are not uncommon, so don't ever walk at night (sun sets at about 7 pm by the way).

When you arrive in Stonetown off the ferry, don't pay any attention to the guys who tell you the hotel you want to stay in is full.  Just ignore them and keep going to wherever your destination was.  Most of them are trying to get commission.
