Situated in the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, Moshi is a popular starting point for travellers planning to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.  It is also home to the Chagga and Maasi tribes.
Travel Tips from people who've been to Moshi
If you are travelling to Moshi then you are more than likely going to hike Kilimanjaro or are on a safari of some description. If you are going to be visiting or meeting the local children for whatever reason I wouldadvise that you bring some school copies, pencils etc for them as gifts. While hiking through the jungle at the foot on Kilimanjaro children appeared out of the forest as they had been collecting firewood and asked for these things. All we could give them were some sweets. School copies etc would have made better gifts.

We took a taxi one evening to go to a pub and I was scared for my life. But as always every country has it's own driving manner. The taxi driver did get us there in one piece and was there to bring us home also. Be warned though there were no rules about how many could get in the taxi and I had to stretch across everyone in the back seat.

The YMCA hostel in moshi is pretty good: swimming pool, breakfast and snacks. It's kinda noisy though.
go out and eat at the Indotaliano!! it's superb! (the hotel in front of that restaurant is also good (less noisy than the YMCA, but no swimming pool)
