Great small town to chill for a while before going to Uganda. lots of places to stay for high end travelers as much as budget backpackers. I stayed at Collin Lodge, Tsh10000 ($7) per night, self contained and close to restaurants. Very clean and safe. Town has much to offer, fast and cheap internet @ Tsh1000 p/h, lovely market, plenty of local restaurants (traditional dishes from Tsh1000) and good tea (chai in local language Swaili). Money withdraw and exchange is possible. Cheap transport options on motorcycles, mini busses and taxi's. Enjoy this small town :)

You'll find ATM and it's also easy to change cash.  Just keep in mind that this is Africa and that the closing time might change from one day to the other. Never walk alone in the street when the night has fallen.  Mwanza is very poor and can be very dangerous for a rich white person.  Taxi are cheap and safe.

This is a great town to chill out in for a few days between Uganda and catching the ferry to Mwanza. From there one can go to the Serengeti or down to Dar and Zanzibar.
It has a lovely beach side hotel The Yasila or The Walkguard up the hill. The climate is beautiful 20-25' C and good to spend a few days sightseeing.
