The best timing to come to Phuket is at the end of October. It's still low season (hence prices are still cheap), but only few days away from the start of the good weather season (thus, high season) in November.
The end of October also marks the annual Vegetarian Festival, a big event in the island, although the big ceremonies are conducted in the morning and especially in the evening. This would be a problem for those who aren't staying in Phuket, because daily ferry trips are only available twice a day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
