Travel Tips from people who've been to Ayuthaya
One of the best ways to take in several sites is to hire a long boat. They are easy to find on the banks of the Pasak River. You will get to see all the sites and ruins along the river, and you'll also get a glimpse of people's home, the royal residences, temples and river life. The city is basically on an island so you can go all the way around on boat. Time your departure right and you can catch a spectacular sunset over the ruins. The boats can also stop if you want to visit specific sites. Depending on your bargaining skills, you should be able to get a few hours for between 600-1000B. Ideal for small groups. From the center go east to the banks of the Pasak River. From the train station cross the river on the shuttle boat (4B) then start looking for rentals. Good tip? (0) Ayuthaya is the ancient capital of Thailand and is at the intersection of three rivers. It is an amazing, wide spread area with numerous temples, courtyards, statues and buildings from about 700 years ago and most are still well kept. Some really nice ones are for example a buddha statue head, which is grown around by the roots of a tree. A MUST SEE, for a cultural trip or just a nice little getaway from the Bangkok buzz. Good tip? (0) Ayutthaya is a great city and the best way to see the sights on a dime is to get a cabbie/tuk tuk driver to take you around before (or as) the sun rises. Why??? Because nobody will be at work that early to collect entrance fees so you'll be able to hop in and out without interference. Don't worry!!! The city is most beautiful at sunrise ... and I have the pictures to show for it!!! Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Ayuthaya
