Visit this diverse small West African country and see the markets of Lome, including the Grande Marche and the various handicraft markets around town. Togo is also known as a major voodoo center with around half of the population practicing it. Around Lome, there is the Marche des Feticheurs, where one can look at and purchase talismans, potions and more unusual items of voodoo practice. The area around Lake Togo has many voodoo related sights, including the village of Glidji, which contains shrines to the main voodoo deities. The cocoa and coffee country around Kpalime is notable for its hiking opportunities and its markets. This area also tends to be more prosperous than the rest of Togo due to its valuable crops.

Kpalime, Togo
Mt Agou is located 20kms southeast of Kpalime and, at 986m, is the highest mountain in the immediate area.  While it is possible to walk up the mountain, without a guide it's very difficult to find the way.  The other..

Kara, Kara Region, Togo
if you can meet a guide in Kara (one is named Solange and she is really sympatical), it's the better way to visit the tamberma's villages. These people's way of life is almost the same as 15 centuries ago.

Klouto is the mountain just past Kpalime and is renowned for its butterfly walks.  These can be organized easily once you get up there, although if you're short on time it may be worthwhile ringing in advance.  There..

Lomé, my home town, i'll not tell that right now everything is okay there, cos of the diplomacy problems, but still, with a city almost totally distructed, you feel exceptionally good, maybe because of the weather? maybe because of really nice people always ready to make you feel like at home? or maybe because of the really really good recipes, meals and drinks we have over there... i'm just encouraginf everyone who 's dreaming to know africa, to start by going in Togo first... Plus, everything is so cheaper than in europe...even the poorest can afford it, only the plane ticket is a bit expensive ...

Except the fact I might have been shot dead by a dozen soldiers in the forest after the border with Benin, this place has people who are very nice. Have a look at this square with the Red Star.

Apportez les médicaments pédiatriques dont vous n'avez plus l'usage à l'hôpital d'enfants de Dapaong, le seul de cette région d'Afrique.

Atakpame, Plateau Region, Togo
Atapkame is the city in which I was born. It's the main city in the "Plateaux" region of Togo. This region is mainly why Togo is sometimes referred to as "the Switzerland of Africa"due to its lakes, mountains but there're also waterfalls. The last tim I was there was in August 2000 and have beautiful memories of that place. In my wildest DREAMS, that's the place I want to live once I'm retired and die!

Kara, Kara Region, Togo
If you're trying to get from Kara to Tamberma Valley by local transport make sure you coordinate it with the market days in either Kande or Nadoba or it's almost impossible.

Lome, Togo
Bush taxis in Lome are fantastic!  Decrepit, unreliable, full to the roof but cheap, plentiful and a truly African experience!  I would thoroughly recommend them, especially if you're not willing to brave the taxi-motos (motorbike/scooter taxis) which are a lot more fun but also a lot more dangerous.

Dapaong, Savanna Region, Togo
Personally I found Dapaong to be an awful place.  The people were quite unfriendly compared to the rest of Togo and the taximoto drivers were incredibly aggressive.  I stopped here to break up my journey between Kara and Ouagadougou and I was very happy to leave!
