Tonga

This relaxed and friendly archipelago of 176 islands in the South Pacific Ocean is politically stable and unspoiled.  Tonga operates as a constitutional monarchy, and the previous King was loved and revered by the populace.  Tonga's location slightly south of the equator means that it receives slightly less rain than other tropical areas, and is a bit cooler and thus more comfortable.  While there is much to appreciate on the surface of this tropical paradise with its pristine lagoons and crystal clear waters, the islands actually hold a rich history.  The first settlers were thought to have arrived here over 6000 years ago and archeologists consider Tonga to be the oldest known site in Polynesia for Lapita ceramic.  Tonga, together with Samoa and Fiji are known as the cradle of Polynesian culture and civilization.  So come to Tonga for a relaxing vacation, sail through the waters, hike through the splendid scenery, participate in bird watching expeditions, or marvel at the ancient structures including a Polynesian Stonehenge in this beautiful island nation.

Some of the most beautiful islands and natural, unspoilt scenery in the Pacific Region. Awesome for diving, swimming with the migrating Humpback Whales, lazing around on a deserted white sandy beach or sailing through..

Foiata must be one of the last pieces of paradise on Earth. This tiny island in the middle of the Pacific ocean is uninhabited, except for Feletti and Ma'ata (the Foiata Blue Lagoon Resort owners), their four children..

Amazing place with incredible beaches in the whole archipelago. The best is to visit it on a sailing boat to be able hop from an island to another one and lie on desertic paradisiac beaches and bath in turquoise..

I went to this Surf Camp in early 2005, and had THE best surf of my life on the 3rd day there. I surfed this small reef break, 5 miles out to see, for almost 6 hours with only 2 other people to share it with. The surf..

Tonga, lets most other South Pacific Islands down. The beaches are mostly rocky with rubbish strewn everywhere. Prices for lodgings etc are OTT, offering very poor room standards ie: cleanliness. We stayed at Ou'tuaka Beach Resort and it was the worst place we have ever stayed. Rude staff, dirty rooms, and cruelty to animals. DO NOT stay here!

Eat at the cafes rather than food from locals - best way to avoid food poisoning!

Vava'u Island, Vava'u Region, Tonga
A truly magistic place, everything is stunning! you can go swimming with the whales, yacht tours around all the mini island and anchor in the bays, even the flight in a 20 seat plane to get to Vava'u is exciting. The food is great with a range of options from italian or mexican to local produce. If you ever get the chance go to the Blue Mermaid Bar where there is great night life and you also embark to find the whales.

Get off of Tongatapu and visit some of the other islands. There are some very nice beaches and some good snorkelling, but you need a car to get around and nothing is easy to find, since there are no signs. Careful of the local fare because they will serve you dog. You need a boat to have the best experience in Tonga.

If you go out at nigt take a torch with you.... there aren't any street lights and you don't want to kick a dog or pig sleeping on the street!
