Get off of Tongatapu and visit some of the other islands. There are some very nice beaches and some good snorkelling, but you need a car to get around and nothing is easy to find, since there are no signs. Careful of the local fare because they will serve you dog. You need a boat to have the best experience in Tonga.

Visit Stevini Fehoko s old- Tongan-Village and also his workshop in the city as well and see by yourself what real art is!!!
When you meet Fehoko ask him if he is happy with his Omega-Seamaster-Professional and if you are nice enough may be he will take you with him for fishing, so you can it the most delicious Sashimi and seaweed in the middle of ocean:).

Tonga, lets most other South Pacific Islands down. The beaches are mostly rocky with rubbish strewn everywhere. Prices for lodgings etc are OTT, offering very poor room standards ie: cleanliness. We stayed at Ou'tuaka Beach Resort and it was the worst place we have ever stayed. Rude staff, dirty rooms, and cruelty to animals. DO NOT stay here!

Not a place i'd recommend with its OTT prices for dirty rooms. Lets the south pacific dream down.

Eat at the cafes rather than food from locals - best way to avoid food poisoning!

A truly magistic place, everything is stunning! you can go swimming with the whales, yacht tours around all the mini island and anchor in the bays, even the flight in a 20 seat plane to get to Vava'u is exciting. The food is great with a range of options from italian or mexican to local produce. If you ever get the chance go to the Blue Mermaid Bar where there is great night life and you also embark to find the whales.
