Cesme Travel Guide

A Day At Çeşme   Yesterday I went to Çeşme on the highway. Once you enter you collect a ticket which is payable once you leave the highway. The cost from Izmir to Çeşme was $1.50 YTL. I must say that if you are traveling by scooter it is not for the faint-hearted. There were sections of the highway that the wind was blowing so hard that to go over 50 km was suicide. It took just over 1 hour to make the journey. There is plenty of parking available just a few roads up from the beach but scooters are allowed to park on the sidewalk there. I arrived in Ilica (the Sheraton Hotel is in this area) and headed straight for the first lounge chair I saw not in use. The cost was $5 YTL for the lounger, a huge cushion and an umbrella. There were plenty of small stalls set up to buy food and drinks from and also restrooms to use at a cost of $1 YTL. The day was great! The soft sand is golden yellow and fine like talc powder, the ocean just warm enough so you don't feel cold but at the same time cool enough to relieve you from the heat. You can safely wade out quite far as it very clear water with gental tides, no seaweed or stones. The day was warm but a gental breeze blew. There are some vendors on the beach selling sunscreen and beach toys but they did not bother me, a nice change from some beaches. After getting nicely sunburnt (again) it was time to head home but I am already thinking of heading back today.
