If you're staying in a hotel outside of Mersin, as I told you to do, you should take a "dolmuş". Dolmuş is just like a small bus that you can stop anywhere on its route by just raising your hand!
Gaziantep, Southeastern Anatolia, Turkey
An interesting city to visit, but it lacks the great amount of historical sites other cities have.  Places to visit are the museum, which is right next to the stadium, and of course one of the many many foodshops they have. Try to find the baklava baker Imam Shagdash (latter word actually uses turkish letters).  Gaziantep (G.Antep or Gazi Antep) is also a good launching platform for your travels to Syria. Take a Dolmush from a small little dolmush stop right behind a tank station to Kilis, and either tell the driver you need to go to the border. If he doesn't take you directly, He'll drop you off at Kilis, where you can take a Syrian cab to Haleb.  Two things to remember: (1) Negotiate the taxi fare beforehand and (2) Take about 200 euro or dollar with you.

When catching taxis know the words for night ('gece') day ('gunduz'). Night rates are higher than day rates and its a common scam for the taxi drivers to set the meter on the 'gece' rate when a tourist jumps in. Also note that the drivers MUST run the meter by law. Ask them before you get in to run the meter and don't get in if they refuse.

The least expensive way to Sultanahmet from the airport is to take the Metro. Exit through the front doors of the airport and you will see signs to the “light rail system”. There is only one line, so you will not get lost. Take the line to the end stop, Aksaray. From Aksaray, transfer to the tram and catch it to Sultanahmet. Another option, change from the light rail to the tram at Zeytinburnu and ride the tram all the way to the Sultanahmet. It is easy, inexpensive, and interesting. Good journeys!
