The Caribbean nation of the Turks & Caicos contains over 40 islands (mostly uninhabited) and is known for being blessed with excellent attributes for sun, sand and water. Sunny for nearly 90% of its days, the Turks & Caicos is also known for the quality of its white sandy beaches, picturesque turquoise waters and has a reputation for being an excellent diving and snorkelling location. The islands are surrounded by a very extensive set of coral reefs with good water visibility. A diverse array of marine life and numerous shipwrecks add to the diving potential.

The island of Providenciales (Provo) attracts most of the visitors to the Turks & Caicos with its well-developed resort infrastructure. Its Grace Bay Beach is in the running for the title of “best beach in the world”, but there are also other excellent beaches on the island that may be less crowded. Chalk Sound National Park contains a very picturesque bay with many little islands. Provo also contains the world’s only commercial conch farming operation.

The Turks & Caicos National Museum in located on Grand Turk Island, and has some fascinating historical artefacts and stories about the island. It makes for a welcome intellectual companion to the sensory stimuli to be found throughout the islands. Other islands in the Turks & Caicos contain their own little slices of history and culture.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Turks and Caicos Islands
The legal tender is the Bahamian dollar (B$1), which is equivalent in value to the U.S. dollar. Both U.S. and Bahamian dollars are accepted interchangeably throughout the islands. Most credit cards and travelers cheques in dollar denominations are widely accepted. There are ATMs in Nassau/Paradise Island, on Grand Bahama Island, Abaco, Exuma, Eleuthera Water Cay and Harbour Island.

When buying things, even in 90% of the souvenier stores and definitely the independently owned shops, everything can be bargained down... if you want to.  Also, ask at the airport about cab fares- if you don't know how much they charge for a ride to your hotel, they'll charge you twice as much.  Ladies, city-smarts after dark.

Awesome Diving.  Great Reefs.  Very quiet.  Only one boarding house on the island.  Not much fresh water.  The perfect spot to get away from civilization and enjoy the water.  Local bar in town is fun for the night.  Most supplies brought in by barge about twice a month.
