Travel Tips from people who've been to Kampala
First off I recomend if you are in Uganda to dress appropraitely(Did I even come close to spelling that right?) Girls get some long but light skirts for walking around when it is hot or pants when it is cooler. There is nothing more embarressing then seeing a bunch of Brits in short shorts and then have them wonder why they are getting stares. A cool place to go is Ally-Gator. It has like two bowling lanes but don't even bother with that go for the Karaoke. It is awesome! And the Ugandans love their Celine Dion... Can't say nobody warned you. Make sure to get the Nile Special.... It is a strong beer in big bottles and it is wicked cheap. Another warning there are in fact two Irish Pubs in town so don't just assume you and all your mates will be driven to the same one :P
I never put my luggage in the back of a cab if taking one because all of a sudden all these charges came up to get your luggage out.  If you are willing and daring take the Matatus, it was the main way I got around. They are cheap... but there is one problem if you are starting in Kampala.... The Matau Park is insane and very over crowded. So, good luck finding your Matatu. If you are riding into the city form any of the outskirt villages it shouldn't cost you more than 700 shillings. I ahve paid hundreds less but it has been a couple of years so I'm adding on my own inflation over a 1000 and there is a big problem. If you are fat get used to it before you go because you will be called Biggie. If you are white I hope you are aware of it because they will holler Mzungu(white person) at you regarless of how you dress.

Take a boda boda (moped taxi) elsewhere in Uganda. Riding one in Kampala is literally taking your life into your hands!

Also, avoid rush hour in Kampala if you're traveling out of the city. I spent two hours traveling about 20 km... packed into a bus taxi.... The traffic gets horrendous.

Take a one night safari trip in tents/lodges to Lake Victoria (or Lake Mburu)- but at the lakeside. At night, you will have a campfire with the hyenas, and at sunset, the hippos come to drink. Most amazing adventure.
