Travel Tips from people who've been to Abu Dhabi
(Tourist) life is very expensive in UAE and if you're not into crazy shopping or checking out fancy new hotels and buildings then maybe there's not much more there to see really. Everything in AD is under construction (just like Dubai,) and that includes beaches. Btw, if you want to dip yourself in Gulf waters, it is recommended to wait with it until early evening when sun is not steaming hot any more. Public beaches are popular and fill up quickly. Best beaches have been hogged by hotels, and hotels there are many. I found people very interesting there. Also, desert safari was lot of fun. If you have opportunity to visit a mosque then I would also recommend to do that, specially if you can find a tour for it. (Men and women can barrow suitable clothes to enter mosque.) You can get lucky to find great concerts in AD with artists from all over the world, and if I remember correctly, they have film festival going on right now (October09.) Information about them may be hard to find sometimes though, but if you go to culture centers, libraries, malls, and alike, you might find interesting and fun surprises. People in service jobs seem sometimes have insufficient training even at nicer hotels and may not be very careful or detailed with everything, so you need to be patient and also keep an eye on your own stuff, to avoid disappointments or misunderstandings. When using cab services, make sure taxi meter is on, and if traveling longer distances, try to get approximate price estimation for the trip in advance. Foods are generally well prepared and often/usually made of fresh ingredients. As AD and Dubai are pretty mixed cities, in terms of people from many nations living and visiting there, it also mirrors in selection of foods available. Good tip? Good tip? (0) Abu Dhabi, my advice... go, experience the culture, soak in the differentness that is amazingness in your opinion, and then go on to find someplace better, Good tip? (0)
