People in United Arab Emirates
Diba, United Arab Emirates
Dibba is city situated on the coast of Arabian sea in the United Arab Emirates, very near to the border of Oman. It is divided by the rocky red mountains from the desert of Emirates and situated in the valley near the sea. A beautifull place which doesn't have many turists, so you can have real experience of how people live there. Wild mountains, free camels, woods of palm trees and road which takes you along the coast will take your breath away. One suggestion if you go there, book a jeep safari or you can rent your own jeep and have a ride across the wild mountain dirt roads...Experience that you will never forget.

Dubai is the place to be for people looking for shopping and people looking for impressive buildoings. At the moment Dubai is a construction site and itwill remain like this for another 5-10 years. For sure worth the detour and even you can stay a week to get a first good impression of all that is happening!

United Arab Emirates Culture
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Dubai is very westernized in appearance but still very middle eastern by culture. Enjoy the malls, the beaches, the restaurants. Don't over indulge in alcohol and especially don't engage in sexual acts on the beach. This is a very elegant, conservative country. Be patient with the traffic - there are lots of cars on the road.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
(Tourist) life is very expensive in UAE and if you're not into crazy shopping or checking out fancy new hotels and buildings then maybe there's not much more there to see really.
Everything in AD is under construction (just like Dubai,) and that includes beaches. Btw, if you want to dip yourself in Gulf waters, it is recommended to wait with it until early evening when sun is not steaming hot any more. Public beaches are popular and fill up quickly. Best beaches have been hogged by hotels, and hotels there are many.

I found people very interesting there. Also, desert safari was lot of fun. If you have opportunity to visit a mosque then I would also recommend to do that, specially if you can find a tour for it. (Men and women can barrow suitable clothes to enter mosque.)

You can get lucky to find great concerts in AD with artists from all over the world, and if I remember correctly, they have film festival going on right now (October09.) Information about them may be hard to find sometimes though, but if you go to culture centers, libraries, malls, and alike, you might find interesting and fun surprises.

People in service jobs seem sometimes have insufficient training even at nicer hotels and may not be very careful or detailed with everything, so you need to be patient and also keep an eye on your own stuff, to avoid disappointments or misunderstandings.
When using cab services, make sure taxi meter is on, and if traveling longer distances, try to get approximate price estimation for the trip in advance.

Foods are generally well prepared and often/usually made of fresh ingredients. As AD and Dubai are pretty mixed cities, in terms of people from many nations living and visiting there, it also mirrors in selection of foods available.

Dress Code in the UAE: The attitude to dress is relaxed, but visitors (both men and women) are advised not to wear excessively revealing clothing in public places, as a sign of respect for local culture and customs. This also applies to public beaches, where swimmers should avoid excessively revealing swimming suits. Most nightclubs require their guests not to wear shorts, caps or sport shoes on their premises. Unless otherwise indicated, official events usually require non-locals to wear formal dress; a suit and tie for men and an evening dress for women. As for the weather requirements, lightweight summer clothing is suitable for most of the year (summer, spring and autumn), though a light sweater or cardigan could be handy when visiting a shopping mall, hotel or restaurant where the temperature might be kept too low to counter the outdoor heat. Slightly warm clothes are needed for the short winter season, especially in the evening. If you are going to visit Burj Al-Arab:
Please refrain from wearing:
Jeans
T-shirts (must wear collared shirt)
Shorts
Sandals (not applicable for females)
Sporting shoes / Trainers
UAE national dress is allowed
In addition, please be advised some restaurants have a specific dress code that you also should respect. Thank you for your consideration and understanding.

It's definitely a place everyone should visit once! Huge differences in live between the working class and the so-called locals. Beautiful hotels, superb weather, great beaches.

Burj-al-Arab is worth a visit for lunch, dinner or afternoon tea. It's astonishing. Don't forget to visit the souks (gold, spice..). Great experience and gives you overall a better view of the many faces of the city.

Ots better to wear darkglasses whenever you walk the gold souk. That way you can actually see the designs better and are not blinded by the dazzling gold.

Dubai is really a shopper's haven. The malls are awesome. You can get really good stuff in most of the malls but all the smaller markets are also good. Buying gold is cheap here but the stall owners offer very low prices for second hand gold jewellry. Not a very good place to sell your old gold

Dubai is indeed a 'Do and Buy' place to be with large shopping malls that you can really shop till you drop. However, I must say that getting around in Dubai is difficult without cabs which can cost a lot if you are on a budget trip. Luckily for me, my hotel is just a few minutes walk to a large shopping mall and I spent my time there before my tour excursion. The sundune dinner I went to was really marvellous. It started off by a short city round about on a jeep before heading further out to the Desert Conservation Reserve. Viewing sunset in the desert is a unique experience.
