ADD TO LISTOn a map it looks like this is a "road to nowhere", but take it. It's a cool town, loads of sleep options, great bars, and wonderful food.
Talkeetna isn't a popular stop for travelers making their way through the United States. The few that do usually go to see the Mount McKinley (Denali). Travelers making their way through the area might want to check out some more well-known nearby destinations such as Anchorage. Have you been to Talkeetna? Travel Tips from people who've been to Talkeetna
When driving into Talkeetna, you'll make a left onto the main road through town (well, what little town there is.) Follow it all the way down until you find a little parking area. Through the trees there is a little trail head that leads to the bank of the river where you will find the most magnificent view of Mt. McKinley (weather permitting.) I thought I would add this as a tip because it's not marked very well and you wouldn't even think there was anything back there.
FrEE Billiards at the south end of town in the A-Frame bar, and just hope-to-god Sweating Honey is playing in town! Additionally, ya might want to bring some food in a cooler, Talkeetna food is very average.
Alaska is the right place to go if you want nature the real way! Talkeetna is an interesting little town that gives a good picture of how fucked up they are in Alaska:-) I loved Alaska!
