Travel Tips from people who've been to Williams
On your way to the Grand Canyon, you probably want to stay as close as possible to the canyon. However instead of staying in the Park itself you can better spend an evening in Williams, about 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon. Williams is one of the towns along the Route 66 and it really shows. Colourful roadsigns and small souvenirshops are everywhere. And the motels are cheaper than the ones closer to the park.

There is a cute McDonald's here with a desert landscape across the street.  My family went searching for rattler's in the rocks.  Thankfully they didn't find one but it was good to get out of the car, grab a quick bite and stretch our legs with a little adventure.

This is a great little town to stay in if you are visiting the Grand Canyon. The downtown is on Route 66 and they do nightly old west gunfights. Lots of things to do for every age group in your family.
