Travel Tips from people who've been to Carmel-by-the-Sea
I passed through this wonderful community south of San Francisco on my way down the Pacific Coast Highway to LA. It's well worth spending a day and night there just to walk the quaint streets lined with beautiful flowers and explore the many art galleries. Wonderful resturants and coffee shops are everywhere to sit and watch people and relaxing from the walking. Its stands alone from other "quaint communities". Well worth  an overnight trip from San Francisco or a break from the drive down the most beautiful highway in the world . The PCH

Great destination for you and your pooch. Main beach is off leash and several hotels and restaurants welcome well behaved pooches. Contact Diggidy Dog for a list of hotels and restaurants that welcome you. http://www.diggidydogcarmel.com/

Walk around the art shops, have homemade candy, go to the beach.  Eat at Clint Eastwood's new restaurant, Mission Ranch, or his old one, Hog's Breath Inn and go see the old mission.
