Travel Tips from people who've been to Dana Point
The St Regis Monarch Beach in Dana Point is a truly outstanding resort that I would highly recommend. The premises are immaculate. The weather was great. Our suite was well appointed. But most of all, the service made our weekend getaway from Toronto to Souther California unforgettable. A gentleman named Blair made the check-in process comfortable, customized and efficient. Our butler, Christof, always remembered our names, recommended ways the St Regis staff could enhance our stay (e.g. hot chocolate and coffee in the morning), and made our daughter feel special when she got to hold and release a Monarch butterfly during an evening ceremony. She has already started making reference to the St Regis in terms of "when we come back".
Dana Point is one of my favorite beach citys in so cal. Everyone is pretty laid back. Its a great place for surfing roots. Doheny state beach once Killer dana is not what it used to be but still a cool place for learning to surf. The marina now blocks most of the waves. About a half mile up the road is a surf spot called the strainds or something.. Go there after you figure it out. The waves here are much less forgiving and there is some rocks and reef in the water. But its some of the best waves ive seen.
You MUST go to the Dana Point tide pools. Its at the back of the Harbor. You can see anything from star fish to octopus in their natural habitat. PLUS if the tide is right, walk down the beach as far as you can see to the caves. BEAUTIFUL!!!
