Not too many travelers make their way to Cortez when visiting the United States. Those that do usually go to see the Mesa Verde National Park. Otherwise travelers visiting the area generally stick to more well-known destinations such as Durango and Aspen. If you do travel to Cortez, please take some time to tell us about what you saw in this Cortez travel guide.
Travel Tips from people who've been to Cortez
The KOA in Cortez is pretty good. Except for the occasional large families moving through or visiting Mesa Verde, it can be quiet. The pool is nice (outdoor) and the people are very accommodating. They don't stiff you on the price (especially if you're staying for a while). They did mention that the primitive camping area sometimes floods, but the rest of the camping is fine. It's got a great view and located just on the edge of town.

With Mesa Verde right down the road there's no reason not to check it out.  The tours are interesting, you will learn a lot about ancient architecture and the land's natives.

A must see is the Mesa Verde park, where you can tour the cliffside pueblos. These are a great example of interactive history.
