Consider the Big Island. I lived there for 7 years and it's got more history, Aloha spirit, and "Old Hawaii" the way it used to be than Maui or Oahu ever could hope for. Rent a car and drive around the whole thing- it has 13 of the world's 15 climate zones. You can play in snow at the Mauna Kea observatories, put some in a cooler, and an hour later have a snowball fight on the beach! See the Volcanoes Nat'l park + you have a good chance of seeing lava, especially lately. Hike in a lava tube and visit the Volcano Winery. See the black sand beach with lots of turtles basking. Soak in the warm Lava Hot ponds near Hilo. See the Tsunami Museum there and the Orchid nurseries. In South Kona, snorkel in pristine Kealakekua Bay where Capt.Cook first sailed in and was eventually killed.Tour a Coffee farm there and experience the best coffee! Visit "Place of Refuge" there and learn about the ancient history of the Hawaiians- you may see a weekly Hula performance from islanders who still practice it (most Fri's at 5PM.) Consider the Big Island!!!!

Questions answered about visiting Hawaii
Aloha! I'm going to Hawaii for 10 days in the end of June. I'll be staying in Oahu most of the time, but I'm thinking of visiting one more island. Which one should I go to? I'm thinking of Maui, The Big Island or Kaua'i. Which one do you think is most worth going to? Thanks! Which is the driest island in hawaii during December? Anybody got ANY idea of what is best to do in Hawaii? I know about the beaches, and the volcanoes. But I need specifics. Also, I need little tid-bits of information of good locations of hotels, things to beware of, and good places to eat. Especially, budget ideas Ask a travel question about Hawaii
Travel Tips from people who've been to Hawaii
I think Kaanapali is the best beach in not only Maui but all of Hawaii. Based on shear beauty you can find better but Kaanapali is my perfect mix of sun, beach, snorkel, and nightlife. There are a number of hotels on the beach; you can't really go wrong with any of them on the beach but I always stay at the Whaler. It's a condo complex. There is a shopping area called the Whalers Village nearby that has great restrurants and good nightlife. Beware of the hotels and condos that say they are on Kaanapali Beach but are really in Laihina Town. Good tip? (+1) One of the most romantic places in the world I think! The Internation Marketplace on the strip is a must-see while on O'ahu. Good tip? (+1) the cheesecake factory for dinner, as well as migillicudy mooses' for breakfast is definately a must! Good tip?
