Travel Tips from people who've been to Indiana
don't forget to go to coney island in downtown fort wayne! yummy (and inexpensive) chili dogs! Good tip? (+1) Evansville is an average-sized city on Indiana's southern tip, bordering the Ohio River and home to both the University of Southern Indiana and the University of Evansville. Each year, Evansville hosts several festivals, but the most famous is the West Side Nut Club Festival, a street fair in downtown Evansville featuring chocolate crickets, brain sandwiches, and other odd delicacies. The fair is usually held on the first full week of October and can draw massive crowds. Another point of interest is Angel Mounds State Historic Site, which along from holding the Koch Planetarium, has extremely well-preserved mounds from the Middle Mississippian people. You can hike the mounds and visit the museum for a full day's adventure. Public transportation is difficult to come by and the city is sprawling, making individual transport a must. Evansville does have its own regional airport with frequent flights to Chicago, but is within two to three hours of Nashville, TN, St. Louis, MO, and Louisville, KY. Good tip? (0) Once you leave the campus of Ball State, the city gets very industrial-looking. There isn't much to do except drink, eat or go bowling. If you're looking for something to do off-campus, I would recommend the following: Local food favorites: 1. Greek's Pizzeria (service is always slow and they only take cash, but it's worth it) 2. Puerto Villarta, home of the Margarita To-Go (again, slow service) 3. Scotty's Brew House (outside seating available) Bars: 1. Dill Street (bar and dancing) 2. MoTini's (laid back college bar) 3. The Blue Bottle (another college bar where people "study" or knit) 4. M.T. Cup (coffee shop) Bakery: 1. Concannon's Bakery Good tip? (0)
