Travel Tips from people who've been to Council Bluffs
Council Bluffs is okay; standard Midwest town from what I can tell. However, if you're looking for more to do, cross the border and just minutes away is Omaha's Old Market. Old Market offers more interesting and posh lodging, dining, nightlife, and people-watching. Also, be sure to visit the Bemis Center for your art fix. The main floor gallery features work created by its past and current in-house resident artists. Also, nearby is the studio of sculptor Jun Kaneko who is well-known for his dango ("dumpling" sculptures). Here's a link for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jun_Kaneko.
You New Zealanders would enjoy! Although pales by comparison to your landscape. It's a breath of fresh air and something original to see after all that rural driving!! Which I loathe! :)
stay at the cheapo highway 80 best western and take the shuttle to harrahs for a night of gambling fun!
