Travel Tips from people who've been to Mississippi
Diamondhead Beach Resort.   Well my husband and I stayed there because we saw it in a coupon magazine and from the description it sound real nice. Very false advertising.   We went in and granted I could see they were still recovering, but  it was 2 yrs after ok.  We were tired and needed a place to rest our head after a long drive. There are alot of lies on the advertisement 1. High speed (yeah if you go to this one room) Not in the rooms or even in the lobby. 2. There are 2 restaurants and 2 bars.  Unless they count Dairy Queen that is next door and the bar that is next door (not on premise) then that again was a lie. The place was horrible.  The first room we got was outside near partying drunks who were bbqing on small bbq pits.   The tv didnt work and it was dirty. We went inside and was looking around near the pool and noticed there were rooms in side and were available.  Since the curtains were open we could see those things. Well we went to the front desk and got a different room inside this time.   It was a little better but the place was a dive, we already booked for 3 nights and couldn't get out of that or we would have. We found out the bar that was inside the place was real bad from other people who were there.  Also as my husband went to work the one day, and I went to get a bite to eat, there was drug deals happening, and one prostitute who was asking some guy if he wanted a date.   I went to the restaurant and even that wasn't really good.  I asked for the salad and took it back to my room.  It was all wrong.   It is the worse place to stay and as soon as we could we got a condo which was quick since we wouldnt stayed in more than the days we had booked.

Beale street has its perks, but it's largely a tourist trap. If you spend too much time there, you'll miss your chance to enjoy one of the real charms of the city: pulled pork BBQ. Ask the locals for recommendations. Tour the area Food Network-style for pulled pork like you would tour for wine in Napa Valley. The adventure won't be good for waistline, but you'll go to interesting places, meet interesting people, and really learn how different -- depending on the cook's philosophy -- pulled pork can be. To kickoff a downtown evening adventure, I would highly recommend lounging at the Peabody Hotel. There you can admire the immaculately beautiful woodwork of this historic hotel lobby's ceilings while chatting with good friends over a too-expensive but very good martini. If you are there are the right moment, which you should be, you'll have the luxury of witnessing the evening duck march into (and back out of) the hotel lobby, a longtime Peabody tradition. Yes, I wrote "duck march." Enough said.

Oxford Mississippi is a great place to go if you want to take a leisurely vacation to a fairly small college town.  It is not very crowded at times that there aren't any sports games unless there is some festival going on.  Oxford is home to the University of Mississippi campus.  They are known for their downtown square where you can do anything from shopping to eating to getting frozen yogurt etc.  They are also known for William Falkner's House.  Falkner is considered one of the most famous authors of Mississippi.  You can tour his house for a small fee or just walk around the grounds exploring, reading, or playing football for free.  I would suggest renting out a condo or house somewhere, but there are plenty of different hotels like a Hampton Inn. You can go play tennis on any of the Ole Miss tennis courts whenever you want to!  In all, Oxford is a great place to travel and have fun!
