Travel Tips from people who've been to Kansas City
The airport in Kansas City is tricky because each gate is a secured area with its own security checkpoint.  Be sure you have the right gate before getting in the security line.  In addition go to the bathroom before going to your gate or you will have to go through security twice.

It's best to just stay away from Kansas City.  I just moved to Independence and everyone says KC is bad news.  I've been driving through there and it doesn't look very safe.  Look up the crime demographics and it will confirm this feeling.  If you're interested in historical figures you can always go check out Truman's house in Independence.  Drive by the Community of Christ Temple and check out the spire.  It makes a nice back drop along with the trees engulfing the area.  Unless you lived there or have gone driving through there you'd never guess there are so many neighborhoods tucked away underneath the leafy canopy.
