Nevada is the seventh-largest state in area, and geographically covers the Mojave Desert in the south to the Great Basin in the north. About 86% of the state's land is owned by the U.S. Federal Government under various jurisdictions both civilian and military. As of 2006, there were about 2.6 million residents, with over 85% of the population residing in the metropolitan areas around Las Vegas and Reno. The state is well known for its easy marriage and divorce proceedings, legalization of gambling, and, in a few counties, legalized brothels.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Nevada
If you're travelling to Vegas from the UK, try to fly direct. Unfortunately there aren't too many carriers to choose from (of the top of my head Virgin out of Gatwick, and BMI out of Manchester), but the upside is you'll arrive at the smaller and a lot less busy international terminal at McCarran airport, so security and getting your bags sould be much faster. HTH Good tip? (+1) Just walking the strip is a great activty- you don't spend anything, but you can get a drink and take it with you if you want. You can stop in at the hotels to look around and there is shopping everywhere, but unless you are really into gambling they are all pretty much the same. Good tip? (+1) Stay in the tourist area's. Lived there for several years. There are parts just outside the tourist areas that you do not want to wonder around in. Gard your valuables. Good tip? (+1) Recent Updates for Nevada
