Albany is the capital of New York state, and is a pleasant town that has little in common with giant New York City. Also some have nicknamed this "Smallbany", Albany has over 100,000 residents, six colleges and universities, and some large arenas. There are some nice buildings dating back to Albany's colonial days, and historical sites and museums that commemorate the cultural building blocks of the city. You can also take a cruise on the Hudson River.

Travel Tips from people who've been to Albany
Albany seems to only have a limited number of taxi cabs. So if you are visiting there during a busy period, such as the NY Bar and you do not have your own car, my advice to you, would be to order a taxi at lunch time to ensure that you arrive at the train station in time for your train. Good tip? (0) Check out The Egg -- it doesn't look much like an egg, but it is a really neat structure nonetheless. They have some great performances inside, too! Good tip? (0) Head north of Albany in the summer for the Tour of the Battenkill pro bike race. Good tip? (0) Recent Updates for Albany
