If you head to the beach during the summer (especially to Ditch Plains, Gin Beach, etc.) make sure to get there early.  If you head out around noon, especially on a warm day, there is a good chance you won't find a spot to park.  Also, make sure you have a permit or a pass.  I have seen MANY people get tickets.

The end. The last point on the south fork of Long Island. Here you can find a nice beach away form the glitz of the Hamptons and the historic light house commissioned by George Washington.

If you ever get a chance go to see the Star Island Shark Tournament, usually held in May of every year.  Very family orientated!
