Oregon City was the destination for thousands of Oregon Trail pioneer settlers in the 1840s. O.C. is known as “The City at the End of the Oregon Trail,” and continues to hold a direct connection to the nation’s pioneer past.
The heart of Oregon City’s unique appeal is its historic district. Downtown Oregon City’s restaurants and shops can be reached via the only vertical street in North America, the Oregon City Municipal Elevator . In the ummertime, the Carnegie Center features local visual and performing artists on the lawn. Tree-lined streets and small-town walkways, antique shops and the best selection of single-malt scotch in the state make for great reasons to visit.
Travel Tips from people who've been to Oregon City
Be sure to catch the bus at the End of the Oregon Trail Museum. It will take you right across town to the Museum of the Oregon Territory. The bus drivers can be chatty too, pointing out a lot of local landmarks on your drive, as well.
Oregon City is the seat of Clackamas County, south east of Portland OR. It was the end of the Oregon Trail. The City center boasts a nice art deco county courthouse, while the Oregon Trail Interpretation Center is worth a visit.
