For a taste of diversity, visit the Nationality Rooms in the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh.  Each room was decorated by craftsmen from different nationalities to reflect their traditional style.  The rooms are used as classrooms so they aren't all open at the same time, but the tour is worth the hour or two that it takes.  It's a nice way to understand more about Pittsburgh's history.

Don't have enough time to spare? As the only building in North America built in the gothic style, both inside and out, the Cathedral is worth a look, even if you don't visit the rooms.  It's located in the eclectic Oakland, so there are plenty of other things to do as well.

The best places to go:  the beaches, the Pier (great gulf view), all of the parks (national, city, and theme), downtown St. Pete, the museums, tropicana fields, thrift stores, most resturaunts, night life, downtown city gatherings (great parties), there is always something going on here.  Gets really crammed while the snow birds are here. Beside the terrible drivers, traffic accidents, and traffic jams it is a nice place to come.  My favorite beaches are Ft. Desoto (kinda remote), St.  Pete Beach, the beaches by Don CeSar Resort, Treasure Island area.  The beaches are very busiy during the summer and spring break.  Jet ski rentas, boat rentals, and parasaling.
