Salem, Massachusetts, United States
Salem is known for the Witch Trials in the 17th century, and today attracts tourists with its history - and with good reason. I can recommend the Salem Witch Museum, which tells the visitor of this time. Even better, though, is the Witch Dungeon Museum, where the Witch Trials are revived with actors, based on original transcripts of the trials.
Bodie, California, United States
The ghost town of Bodie was founded during the gold rush in the 1850s - and was soon deserted again. Nowadays, it is an outdoor museum which gives a nice insight into the life of the pioneers of that time. Part of it appears to be staged (e.g. the writing on the school's blackboard), but it's still recommendable if you are interested in the life in the years 1850 to 1920.
Novi, Michigan, United States
Novi's came from the fact that it was the sixth train station or No. VI from Detroit.
Battle Creek, Michigan, United States
Battle Creek has a wonderful series of poster sized black and white photos of significant buildings throughout the downtown area. Each photograph is accompanied with a paragraph describing the significance of the building pictured...and then mentions in each case when the building was demolished. It is a spectacular demonstration of a lack of forethought of architectural heritage. But DO go to Arcadia Brewing Co. Fantastic beer served with excellent wood-fired pizzas.
Kingman, Arizona, United States
There is a Museeum of old Route 66. Very intersesting and cool!
Lake Stevens, Washington, United States
it was founded in 1900
Lake Stevens, Washington, United States
the train has been in the lake for 95 years
Vandalia, Illinois, United States
Second oldest state capitol and has the oldest standing State House in Illinois. Abraham Lincoln was in legislature here. It's rumored that him and Stephen Douglas got in a heated debate and Abraham Lincoln jumped out of the second story window. Tours are available of the State House. Across the street from the State House is a park where there's a statue of Lincoln sitting....great for pictures! Museum is behind the State House. If you're into antiques, there's lots of stores around the State House.
Wolfe City, Texas, United States
Historic old town, see the grain mill and cotton gin. Nostalgic little place.
