Mount Rushmore - This is an impressive monument and achievement for the the sculptor. With that said, you will be disappointed when you see it in person. The scale is not what one would expect. You see photos with Air Force One Flying by and you imagine the heads are just huge, but they are not. I felt cheated. Fortunately, I was driving cross country on a move. Had I driven to South Dakota expressly for the purpose of seeing Mt. Rushmore, I would have been very unhappy.

Definitly stop here to visit! Stay at the Holiday Inn... it's nothing like other Holiday Inn's I've stayed at. This one is more like a mountain lodge at a ski resort. Very nice and you can walk the wooden raised sidewalk in this cowboy town.

Mount Rushmore is more than a carved rock.  The feeling of patriotism is awesome.  I never knew there were more verses to the Star Spangled Banner but i heard them sung here and it was amazing!
