Nashville is awesome! Take a walk and explore the culture around the Gaylord Arena. Tons of different music, foods, atmosphere!

For the quintessential American Rock and COuntry feel, I suggest visiting Graceland and Grand Ol' Opry.

Walking in Memphis— a hybrid city where glitz meets gritz. Obviously the main attraction here lies with the legacy of one Elvis Aaron Presley. However, if you can block out the tacky souvenirs and bad impersonators Memphis is a city with a rich musical culture that extends beyond the great man and it echoes on every street corner and vibrates out of every bar. Traditional creole cooking is a highlight for the more adventurous traveller (seek out blackened cat-fish) and you can't leave without a stroll down the famous Beale Street. Non-musical puruits can be found in the way of a traditional river boat cruise down the muddy Mississippi, or at the ice-rink in the middle of the main shopping mall during the winter. But despite the stereotype, the creme de la creme for me was Elvis's garage. An amazing place where the King's collection of one of a kind cars and motorbikes are lovingly stored and maintained. His home Graceland is a weird place, part shrine, part museum, totally tacky it has to be seen to be believed. The collection of show costumes is entertaining— track his expanding girth by the increasing size of the waistbands! You may feel you've stepped back in time in more ways than one, apart from the gaudy 70's and obviously drug-enhanced interior decorating, the presence of die-hard fans crying at the outdoor memorial is somewhat disturbing especially considering they don't appear to have changed either their hairstyle or dress sense since the king was still alive and kicking. Ah Memphis, the city of dreams......
