I'm going to Norfolk, Virginia in May to see "Wicked." Since that's a couple hours' drive, I won't be going often, so I was wondering, is there anything else up there worth seeing since I'll be in the area?

Travel Tips from people who've been to Norfolk
Ok, this is more or less for people fresh out of boot camp about to arrive for the first time in Norfolk. I've got some pointers for you guys. First things first, NEVER wear your uniform out in public. Chicks don't dig it and you'll just end up getting ripped off. Secondly, let your hair grow out a little. Ditch the booter hair-do and join the rest of the planet. Next, if you wear glasses get new, non-Navy frames. You will appreciate it. Furthermore, make as many civilian friends as possible. They will be much more fun to hang out with than your buddies from work. Trust me, they know the town better than you do. And lastly, DON'T TELL PEOPLE YOU ARE IN THE NAVY! What ever your job is in the Navy, just say you are the civilian counterpart. A girl at the bar will 70% of the time not give you the time of day once she finds out you are in the Navy.
This all come from experience guys.

Norfolk, VA, has the largest U.S. naval base in the world. There are harbor tours from downtown Norfolk, and there is a Norfolk Naval Base tour (small cost to civilians, but free to U.S. military with military ID card). For a free tour of a ship, there is the Battleship Wisconsin on the 2nd level of the Nauticus in downtown Norfolk. The rest of Nauticus has a fee, and, if there is time, a combination harbor tour and Nauticus discovery zone is available. Check out the monuments and the shopping pavilion while you're at the waterfront.

Norfolk Virginia....if you like anything Naval you'll love this place. The battleship Wisconsin is berthed here next to the Nauticus. Norfolk is a fairly large city thanks to the military. There are a lot of things to do here, and a lot of history to research. General Douglas MacArthur Memorial is located here in the down town area, and is very interesting.
