Piriapolis Uruguay is a quiet spot to get away from the busy Punta del Este which is only about 30 minutes away by car.   Located on the Plata River you will have a great view of a beautiful sunset where the people stop to applaud and marvel it's beauty every evening.  It's much cheaper than staying in Punta del Este.  If you care to enjoy the nightlife be sure to visit La Rinconada.  But don't go too early the party doesn't get started until 12am to 1am.  Be sure to go to the top of the hill and order a chivito while watching the sun set one evening.  If you're looking for a more quiet, relaxed, cheaper time at the beach but still close to the wildness of Punta del Este, this is a perfect location.

If you like trekking, there's a reservation near Piriapolis called "Pan de Azucar".
There's a small zoo and a trail to the top of the mountain where you could see Punta del Leste in sunny days. In the top there's also a big metal cross.
To go there you can take a bus called "Pan de Azucar" that leaves every hour from the main bus stop. It takes 20 minutes to get to the reservation.
