Travel Tips from people who've been to Western Uruguay
Dont take any tour with Buquebus or other, only the boat. Then don't take a taxi at the port. They rent lot of nice car just near, walk 100m following everybody. Good tip? (+1) Until the independence, Spanish and Portuguese fought for the control of the city. Today, the old city (Ciudad Vieja), UNESCO city, is an amazing and marvellous place to discover the life during the colonisation. The constrat between Portuguese and Spanish architecture is stunning. If you live in Buenos Aires, you just need to cross the river. It's only 45 minutes by buquebus. Choose a sunny day even if in winter (cheaper and less tourist). You can also visit Plaza del Toros (Bull arena), but it's far away from the bus station. Don't take a taxi, it's cost a lot. Good tip? (0) You can do a great visit to Colonia in just one day. You should not forget to know the "Estancia Anchorena" near to the city. It´s a fantastic ranch where to can have a very nice tour to know the history of the place, know the "Faro" and the house that was donated from the onwners to be a resting house for the presidential family. Good tip? (0)
