Venezuela People & Culture
Caracas, Capital, Venezuela Not nearly as scary as people made out, but we did stick with the safety do's and don't's in our guidebook so maybe that is why. We found it had an excellent public transportation system. Good tip? (+1) Caracas, Capital, Venezuela Caracas has delicious Caribbean cuisine in downtown Caracas. The weather is just fabulous and people are very friendly. Get versed in Venezuelan politcs, history and culture prior to traveling there so you can understand and engage in interesting conversation. Good tip? (+1) Canaima, North-Eastern Region, Venezuela A real natural wonder. Most people go there to see Angel Falls and while it's the highlight of the park, there are many other spots that are worth seeing. Good tip? (0) Puerto La Cruz, Guayana Region, Venezuela Most people go to Puerto La Cruz for the beaches and nightlife. But in my last trip to Venezuela I discovered a place called Canaimita, they have a nice waterfall, hot springs and white water rafting. The downside is that you have to drive through a slum and therefore it’s not recommended to go on your own. There's a small family run guest house in the area that provides guide service and meals, nice people but don't expect much from them service wise. Good tip? (0) Caruachi, Guayana Region, Venezuela Use to be a nice place, good river beaches, now goverment is building a new electricity dam, before wonderfull experince cross the Caroni River in a Chalana- Small boat which carry cars and people from one site to another Good tip? (+1) Caracas, Capital, Venezuela For a good (and safe) nightlife spot with beautiful people and lots of electronic music, house and Acid house. Try To go to San Ignacio Mall. Yes, it is a mall, but it comes very alive at night with Caracas best nightclubs on the rooftop. Your wallet has to be wide opened due to high prices. That is the price to party with nice people. Good tip? (0) Merida, Andean, Venezuela Go hiking in the nearby mountains, it's really fun. Also, if you have a chance to go to the small mountain village of La Puerta, do it, it's really quaint and not touristy. Good tip? (+1) Soledad, North-Eastern Region, Venezuela great view of the orinoco river and ciudad bolivar, good fish to eat, you can meet locals playing board games on the street Good tip? (0) Campamento del Guri, Guayana Region, Venezuela Great view of Guri Dam, Great art works from Alejandro Otero And Carlos Cruz Diez, Good fish to eat Good tip? (0) Isla Larga, Central Region, Venezuela Great small Island to visit quite near to Valencia. Would recommend it as a typical one day trip. Good access. No infrastructure on Island. 2 sunken ships to be found from WWII era. Great for snorkeling and wreck diving. Nice white sand, ideal for families as well. Good tip? (0) El Dorado, Guayana Region, Venezuela This city is famous for it's terrible prison and, most importantly for being the center of the 24k gold business. To get some of the most beautiful gold jewelry in the world at the market price of the gram of gold, you have to go to El Dorado. Plus it's really funny to walk around the main square and see a jewelry for every 2 shops! Good tip? (0) Caracas, Capital, Venezuela An absolute must, this city is facinating. You must try one of the local cafe's and try a veg/fruit smoothie, very bizaare! Great architecture too. But do exactly what you tour guide tells you and never leave his sight! Good tip? Good tip? (+2) Merida, Andean, Venezuela Go hiking in the nearby mountains, it's really fun. Good tip? (+1) Caracas, Capital, Venezuela I went on an LDS Mission to Caracas. Beautiful! But, unfortunately the government is headed by a lunatic! The result is Americans are not welcome. The country could be making Billions on tourism because it is so beautiful there. Instead, they are in the same world as Cuba. Most of the people live in dirt poor poverty while the government hoards all of the oil profits. It's very sad! Good tip? (0) |
